The Space Between

Not every silence is empty.

Some silences are crowded with answers that have not yet found the right shape. Others are simply a refusal to respond too quickly.

We tend to treat pauses as defects in a process: a delay before the message, the design, the decision, or the next version. But the pause can be part of the work itself.

Unfinished is not useless

An unfinished thought can be more honest than a finished sentence delivered too soon. It leaves a door open for context, contradiction, and change.

There is a particular kind of confidence in saying:

I do not know yet, but I am still looking.

This is not indecision. It is attention extended over time.

Making room

A page needs margins. A song needs rests. A conversation needs enough air for someone to change their mind.

The same may be true of a life. We do not need to fill every interval just because it is available.

Sometimes the most useful thing we can create is a little space between one certainty and the next.
